Harvest Happening October 2000

SAAC-Motor City Region opentrack event from Sunday.
Basically, the day was COLD!!! We had 43'F and rain/snow-flurries. The afternoon clouds thinned, and track finally dried out.

We had a couple of "mishaps":
1. Caterman got sideways off Pelton Bend (after hilltop). He got on the wet slippery grass, and went off into the swap on the OUTside of the track. He went off probably 30 feet (diagonally) into about 4" of water. There was a "big splash" when he hit the water :-) He's ok, WET with the open cockpit, and the car suffered no dammage. We towed him out with the Waterford truck. He dried out the car, and removed all the seaweed, and drove it to the pits.

2. Neon went off turn one, THRU the sand trap and went into the tire barrier. Not very hard, and there was maybe some very minor dammage if at all.

3. The Viper (not mine, but jokingly took a photo) had a tensioner pulley seize. There was TONS of smoke (like a dragstrip burnout). He said to the passenger "...get ready to bail...". He thought maybe the engine was on fire. The tensioner pulley seized, the belt stopped moving, and the crank spun and spun on the belt, till it finally burned thru. Car is ok, just needs a new pulley and belt.

4. Scotts #63 car still has a miss in the engine. It may be insufficient fuel somehow. The fuel pressure gauge (when cleaned) went to 39psi... Dont know. We're stumped, but he has a while to get it all sorted out for next season.

5. There were a couple of spinouts... but nothing that I know of got dammaged.

6. I personally had something "clunk", and then the passenger rear tire started to rub. I ran this panhard for 3 years, and sorted out all of the rubbing areas already (so I thought). I pulled off that session, and got the 5 pound "persuasion hammer" and clearanced the inner fender a bit more. Not really sure why its now rubbing. I looked for breakage of the all panhard pieces, nothing. I took it easy for the rest of the afternoon. We'll look at it this winter, and will be installing a new Griggs k-member, control arms, coilovers. Woohoo!

I instructed a fellow coworker Pierre. He brought out his 2000 Cougar. Thus the photos and video clip. He rode with me as we toyed with the Viper. The Viper and I passed one car per lap (more digitized video soon). Pierre had a lot of fun, and for a first-timer, did pretty well. We hooked another one!
